Arvid Kahl sold his company for seven figures and then gave away the entire playbook for free
Arvid Kahl
Founder of Podscan.fm, author of Zero to Sold
There is a version of the bootstrapped-founder story that ends at the exit. You build a small SaaS, it works, someone buys it, you post a screenshot of the wire transfer and move to Portugal. Arvid Kahl got to that ending in 2019, when FeedbackPanda, the tool he and his partner Danielle built for online English teachers, sold to SureSwift Capital for a seven-figure sum after going from nothing to $55,000 in monthly recurring revenue in about two years.
Then he did the strange thing. He wrote it all down. Not the highlight reel: the mechanics. Pricing, churn, support load, the specific moment they realized their customers were a niche inside a niche, what the due diligence process actually looks like from the inside. Zero to Sold came out in 2020, hit #1 on Product Hunt, became an Amazon bestseller, and reads less like a founder memoir than like a manual you keep open on a second monitor.
The teacher half
This is the duality that makes him worth your attention. Arvid is a builder who cannot stop teaching, and a teacher who refuses to stop building, and he insists the two are the same job. He calls it Learn. Teach. Repeat., and he means it structurally: the learning is only finished when it has been handed to somebody else.
So there is The Embedded Entrepreneur, the follow-up book arguing that you should find your people before you find your product. There is The Bootstrapped Founder, a podcast and newsletter that has run for years with a consistency most publications with staff cannot manage. There is a Twitter feed of 200,000-plus people who show up for the founder equivalent of a long walk with someone smarter than you. Almost all of it is free, which is the part that keeps confusing people who assume the content is a funnel. It is not a funnel. It is the point.
The phrase in his bio, raising all the boats with kindness, sounds like LinkedIn wallpaper until you notice he has actually structured his working life around it. The books teach the thing he did. The podcast teaches the thing he is doing right now. There is no gap between the two where a paywall could fit.
Doing it again, with the lights on
The current build is Podscan.fm, and it is deliberately enormous for a one-person company. It ingests podcasts, 3.7 million of them, 27 million-plus episodes transcribed, and turns the entire spoken-audio internet into something searchable, so a brand can find out that its name came up eleven minutes into an episode nobody on the marketing team has ever heard of. There is a sibling product, Podline.fm, for collecting voicemail from listeners.
The infrastructure bill for that is not an indie-hacker bill, and he has talked openly about the transcription costs, the server sprawl, and the months of building before a dollar arrived. In early 2025 it crossed into profitability. Every step of that is documented, the mistakes included, in close to real time, because the whole enterprise is a live demonstration of the book.
Start with Zero to Sold if you are building something and want the map. Start with The Bootstrapped Founder podcast if you want the weather. Either way you get the same person: unusually generous, extremely specific, and refreshingly unbothered by the idea that giving away your best material might cost you something.
